Photos from Ethan’s life.
Online, Ethan was known by the “handle” Chillifries. Below is a collection of photos that his Mother and I scanned. I’m posting as a remembrance of Ethan, using the technology that he spent his life on. Ethan’s friends were all over the world, as he chose to live life online. Somewhere in an unknown virtual world is a monument to Chillifries created by his friends. That is probably what he would appreciate most.
A sample of the CNC work that Ethan did.
Ethan was an artist that used a computer and a CNC to create his art. He would argue that he as no artist, but he was wrong. He created some truly beautiful work. The video below is just a representation of what he made, as he disliked being photographed.
The InsideOut House
Ethan purchased this house and it was a disaster, but in a great location and had a nice lot. We stripped it down to the walls, then we constructed three posts and a ridge beam to hold the new roof joists. We removed each old truss, one at a time, and replaced them with 2×12 roof joists. It was grueling work, but it opened up the house and allowed for a loft.
The roof and walls were insulated, then 2×2’s were nailed horizontally to create a thermal break, this allow for a much more energy-efficient house.
Once this was done, we moved to the outside of the house, where all the old siding was stripped off, new windows and doors were framed and installed. After that, we sheathed the whole house with house wrap, stopping wind from getting in, but allowing for moisture to escape.
We then moved back into the house to rewire the entire house, and add a high-efficiency furnace and an on-demand water heater. Once this was done, Ethan moved into the house and started to finish with drywall. The floors were uneven concrete, poured at different times. He used a laser level to mark and then cut each floor joist, covering them with flooring. The floor was level to within 1/8 of an inch from one side of the house to the other.
We often joked that it would have been easier to start from scratch, but we really enjoyed bring this old house back to glory.
Unfortunately, Ethan passed away before this could be completed, so my family and friends completed the InsideOut house for him, just as he had envisioned.
